Yarns And More Yarns

I have this current addiction to buy yarns..well, at least I could say that because the other day while checking out a craft/sewing items store as recommended by a fellow blogger (after attending a friend’s Raya open house), I spent almost RM100 just to buy yarns at the shop..huhu!

You see, yarns come in different types and sizes. Some are only suited to be made into certain items. For example, if you were to crochet a bookmark, you will need yarn that is soft and thin, not something that you would crochet an afghan or flower. Thus I have been accumulating different yarns in different colors for different projects.

I am still learning a thing or two about which yarns that I love to crochet with. Since I have been making bookmarks and flowers for embellishment, I have only been able to experiment with few types. So far I have tried DMC Babylo, DMC Senso, Anchor #8 and DMC Cotton Perle #8. I also bought a few types of cotton and acrylic yarns at Daiso. I even bought the cheap acrylic one (less than RM2 per skein) brand Minlon at a nearby sewing shop but found that they are not a joy to crochet with. At first glance, the outcome of the crocheted material looks the same but the feel is not.

Thanks to Rita Harris of Rita@Work, I tried another type of Minlon yarns – Minlon Polly. It is sold at RM7.50 per skein. So far I have crocheted flowers and edging using the yarns. It is not as great as DMC Cotton Perle or DMC Babylo but for such a price, I think it’s good enough.

I will keep on experimenting until I find the best yarns that suit each and every project I love to try. I hope in times I will be able to share my experience especially with other beginners in crochet.

The Body Shop Member Sale

This is a must write entry, even though I am so sleepy at the moment.

I managed to check out the Body Shop outlet nearby my old place around 9pm despite the fact that we have been out the whole day, very tiring indeed..huhu!

Not much choice left at that particular outlet, but I still managed to buy something for myself.

Total damage is RM195. Some with 30% discount like the Moroccan rose shower gel and EDT. They smell almost like Paul Smith Rose perfume and Mark & Spencer Rosa Centifolia shower gel.

Since I have been using the Ginger Scalp Care shampoo for the past one year and the result on my scalp is quite good, I just bought another bottle since it is on 20% (or is it 10%?) discount. Of course for member, you will get an additional 10% after the discounted price.

I also bought the tea tree facial wash for Hubby even though it is not on 50% discount as per my initial expectation. Now I have 4 new bottles of shower gel to use alternately..hehe! And hubby get to use the new bath lily (I already have one bath lily) since it comes together in the red box with the Wild Cherry and Pink Grapefruit shower gel.

For those interested to buy Body Shop products, the member sale will last on Sunday 23rd May, but the normal sale will last till 13th June 2010.

Somehow after coming home, I feel that I should get a better bargain, since in other outlets you get to buy the big bottle of 250ml shower gel in less than RM15..waa..how eh? should I go and check out other outlet tomorrow?..isk!

The Body Shop Sale

I just checked out some useful blog entries online and I think I have to go and check out the Body Shop sale tomorrow..heh!

Thanks to blog The Zestful One for coming out with this entry : The Body Shop Malaysia 2010 Sale + price list.

I am not really into make up but if there’s any good shower gel, I am into it..heh! And for something that’s below RM20, I will definitely grab one. Just check out her calculation, take this as an example:

Body & Shower Gel – Peach & Raspberry (250ml)

* Retail Price: RM24.90
* Discount : 50%
* Price after discount + 10% members = RM 11.20

With different fragrance to choose from, I could buy a few tubes and they could last me for many months. Eh, for a mom like me, it’s very nice you know, after a long tension day of taking care of the little one, to be able to pamper yourself with shower gel like that.

And the tea tree range is on 50% discount as well..wah wah..my facial cleanser is kind of nak habis ni..should I switch back to tea tree oil cleanser?.hemm..the usual Biotherm cleanser that I am using now costs me RM95 per tube..will think about it in my dream tonight..heh!

But whatever it is, this is really something to look forward this weekend. I will be earning some money tomorrow from my craft class, so I don’t feel bad about spending something for myself..hehe!

Organic Apples?

I was about to go to sleep when I stumbled upon a website National News Today that shares news and expert advice on all range of topics.

One interesting article that I happened to read is about farm direct organic apples.

Actually, I am a big advocate of organic products especially when it comes to fruits and vegetable. I try my best to buy organic vegetable every time I shop for my weekly supply. Yes, they are simply more expensive than the non organic products, but for the sake of my family health, I am willing to spend more.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if I am in the country where people can pick their own organic fruit of the month? One day I hope I would be able to go on a trip where I get the chance to pick my own apples from the trees..heh!

Anyway, I am not sure whether the local grocers have this Washington organic apples for me to buy and try. Local Malaysian farmers do have organic vegetable produce but not sure about fruits though, but I really want to taste the difference.

Impulsive Buying?

What do you call a purchase that is totally unplanned but it did happen? hehe..That is what we consider as impulsive buying. Both of us happen to have that streak of bad traits in the gene..(keh keh..alasan!)

We were out on weekend after Hubby finished off his standby duty. The main plan was to drop by at the new house to meet up with the wiring guy. Since it was still early after the meeting has been completed, we decided to head off to the nearest shopping mall, and then this happened.

So as the result, instead of a new 1.5HP air cond in the master bedroom, we will have a new King size bed with a divan worth of RM2499 but bought at RM1. Nice deal, huh! Oh, for those looking for new bed, you can get a complete set (divan with mattress) for as low as RM1200 – after 50% off for mattress. However you have to go to Macy HQ in Wisma Minlon, Seri Kembangan to check out the deal.

The branch that we went to doesn’t have the mattress with discount up to 50%…the most they have is 30%. Now as I am writing this, I am thinking that I should have bought air cond and stick with our current cikai old queen bed anyway, but then again, no regret as who can get a divan for as cheap as RM1?
