The Year of Dragon

The last few days were really a bliss. Hubby was on long public holiday since Chinese New Year fell on Monday and Tuesday. The initial plan during the long hols was for me to learn how to drive our car. It has been 3 years now that I haven’t drive any car, never feel the need to do so, am not so fond of driving in the first place.

We didn’t do much to start the year of dragon.err, well, at least for me. Been doing groceries shopping, went to the zoo, managed to buy a new pot of pokok pandan and bunga melur to replace the dead one, went out for late lunch on days that I didn’t feel like cooking..oh, and cleaned up the craft room, at least 1/4 of it.

I did some craft work over the long weekend and shared them on FB. Here is one example, it is a decoupage box I finished over the weekend.

And these are the handmade bookmarks for those who buy craft books. I called them my thank-you-series bookmarks..heh!

So how do you start your year of dragon?

Have You Tried Scrapbooking?

I’m not sure how many of you have tried scrapbooking but I’m sure many have heard about such hobby.

I started it somewhere in 2005 (I think) and even now I still do scrapbook layout every now and then, and of course if there’s any good challenge/contest to enter. The great thing about entering such challenge is that you’ll have the chance to win more scrapbooking stash or voucher from the online scrapbooking companies..heh!

The real scrapbooking materials are not really cheap. If you buy in a local scrapbooking store, some paper can go as high as RM8 per piece. Most of the papers used in scrapbooking are acid free which means it won’t turn yellow after many years. I still have so many unused paper collection as the result of my hoarding habit for the past 7 years…heh!

Sometimes when I don’t really have time to make a full size scrapbook layout, I used those papers and embellishment to make bookmark like this.

So what’s your hobby?

One Day – The Movie & Book

I feel like reading the book One Day by David Nicholls after watching the movie.

MPH have the copies so I might get one once I managed to go to the nearest branch.

Here is the brief synopsis:

It’s 1988 and Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley have only just met. But after only one day together, they cannot stop thinking about one another. Over twenty years, snapshots of that relationship are revealed on the same day—July 15th—of each year. Dex and Em face squabbles and fights, hopes and missed opportunities, laughter and tears. And as the true meaning of this one crucial day is revealed, they must come to grips with the nature of love and life itself.

For me the movie is such a sweet and tender story even though the ending is unexpected. I like this quote:

“She made you decent, and in return you made her so happy, so happy, and I will always be grateful to you for that.”

Will write more once I get the book and read it :)

The Eternity Ring

These days it is quite hard to find time to sit down and talk. Being parents are not an easy job for us. As we are preparing to celebrate our son’s birthday, Hubby reminded me that how the birthday will always be celebrated about a week after our wedding anniversary..yes, we have been married for almost a decade now.

It reminds me how young we were when we first met each other back then in college. And once we started working we decided it was time to get married. With the unstable financial situation at that time, getting an expensive wedding ring was really out of question. We just made do with whatever the budget allowed us.

I always told Hubby that he should get me a better ring for our 10th year wedding anniversary gift. And then I found about this eternity ring. For those who never heard of such term, the eternity ring appeared about 4,000 years ago at the time of the Egyptians who were the first recorded people to make and wear eternity rings…(now I feel like Cleopatra..haha!)

Eternity rings are essentially a continuous circle of metal studded with stones either halfway or the full way around the ring. The symbolism of a circle made with precious metal, which has no beginning or end, reflected everlasting or eternal love between two people. In addition, some eternity rings have multiple strands or are plaited to emphasize unity.

As I read further, I found that the eternity rings have more recently become known as celebration rings, given at the birth of a child or marking a wedding anniversary. They are usually worn on the third finger of the left hand, next to the engagement and wedding ring.

Now, which precious metal should I choose? It’s either white gold, yellow gold, rose gold or platinum. Which one would you choose, help me decide.
