I Want To Be A Hacker When I Grow Up!

It’s that time of the year again, where students who are eligible to further their studies enroll to college and university. My nephew who are into IT Security has been crossing his fingers hoping that this time he will get a place in any local college to further his studies to undergraduate.

I wonder what it will be like when my son grows up and the teacher at his school asks what he wants to be..hehe! Will he want to be a Certified Ethical Hacker?

Don’t be surprised since these bunch of geeks actually earn a lot. Survey done in 2007 shows that the top 50 percent of these computer scientists earned between $97,970 and $123,900.

What is ethical hacker actually?

They are actually computer scientist that works as a security specialist, forensic investigator, or network defense architect for corporations, the government, and law enforcement agencies to help prevent hacking or to track down perpetrators.

You might have some hacking skills (developed on your own), added that with a bachelor’s degree in computer science or information technology, plus an additional online college training in network security and there you are, able to demand a higher salary as your skills are indispensable to the company..heh!

So if you feel that you need the certification to boost your salary, check out the next available iClass conducted by EC-Council to discover all the benefits of EC Council certification without the added expense of travel. Among the area of interests are:

* Security Fundamentals
* Ethical Hacking
* Penetration Testing
* Computer Forensics
* Disaster Recovery
* Secure Coding

Cookies From The Old Days…

This is how it looks like when you kept a biscuit (cookies?) for more than 5 years in a box, under the stairs of your house, and totally forget about it…heh!

I bet even a CSI can’t figure out what it is if not for the plastic packaging…we found this while packing our things…

Just hope the habits of keeping things and never spotcheck them from time to time will stop since we have our own home now..(personally, I doubt it! keh keh!)

Stem Cells: Nature’s Miracle

If there is one thing I regretted not doing, it would be to save the stem cells from my son’s umbilical cord blood. For those who are not aware, stem cells from umbilical cord blood are known to treat over 70 diseases, and have been used in over 12,000 transplants worldwide.

Taken from the Cryo-Cell website,

“Your baby’s cord blood is rich in stem cells, which are special cells normally found in our bone marrow. Stem cells are the master cells responsible for producing all of the mature cells in our blood and immune system. They form the white cells that fight infection, the red cells that carry oxygen, the platelets that promote clotting and the cells of our immune systems.

Stem cell treatments and transplants have already been used for such wide-ranging diseases and conditions as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, leukemia, sickle cell disease, severe anemia’s and severe combined immunodeficiency. ”

Honestly we were not against the idea of the cord blood banking when we attended the antenatal class, the only setback that time was the expensive fees. I thought I will have time to reconsider and later sign up, but then the precious one decided to pop out too soon..heh!

I am not sure whether there will be another child in the future, but if I decide to have the next one, I will make sure that time I will choose to bank the cord blood.

Check out this Cryo-Cell Customer Testimonial:

“My children are the most precious gifts that I will ever have and I want to do everything I can to make sure they are well. While I was pregnant with my first child, I would see articles and ads about cord blood and it bothered me that it was so expensive but what if I one day needed this blood. The reality of having only one chance or it really went in the garbage kept me wondering if I would regret not investing. What if he had cancer or his dad or I were sick, would that blood have been the cure? Through research, I came across Cryo-Cell International, Inc., a company with the most reasonable rates and the assurance of two holding facilities.

When I was pregnant with my second child, we wondered if one bank was enough? Finances were tighter and should we spend the money? Then we realized that his brothers blood might not match for the new baby. The next day, stories were breaking about how Cord blood had saved or changed the lives of children, one cancer, one cerebral palsy. Then we discovered that a friend was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. He didn’t bank his daughters blood and wished he had. Three years prior, I lost a friend to renal cancer when she was 29. We felt like it was our answer.

We are just beginning to see miracles that this blood can bring. We have two “life insurance policies”, that is how we look at it. If anyone in the family gets ill, there is a chance that the blood could save our lives. If we don’t use it, then it is there for our son’s children.”

Sincerely,
mother of Parker and Davis

Oh, for those who have enrolled by 19th April 2009 (this could be too late to mention), you will get a free Baby Bjorn. (Trust me this baby carrier is just great! I just bought one recently..)

The Old Days..

We found this among all the junks when we packed our things to move to our new home. Well, I can’t really remember when I first had my mobile phone and this prepaid package. If it was during college years, then it will be about 10 years ago. The point is check out the price for the prepaid – it’s RM238 with RM50 reload in the SIM card..huhu!

Now you can get as low as RM10 for a prepaid package…sigh!

Scrubs, scrubs, scrubs!

Hey you! Check out the Scrubs, the nurse’s guide to good living. Even though I am not a trained nurse, but being a stay-at-home mom makes me feel like one – having to staff the household health care system 24/7, 365 days a year, have to stay fully awake and alert, keeping an eye on the little one and even to work around the clock, on evening (morning, night) shift to breastfeed, well for all that, the guide seems to ring a bell to me.

How about checking their article on wake up looking younger. You moms out there wouldn’t want to look like a grandma on the first day of sending your child to school, right? I for once would love to keep this young face of mine..(hubby, please don’t puke..hehe!)

The guide says, first you have to make sure you have a clean face before you fall asleep. Not that I wear any make up at home, but still after gruelling hours of taking care of the son and settling the house chore, a good face wash won’t hurt either.

And the second tip, moisturize..that’s one aspect of facial I find too hard to do especially when all I want to do is to grab some sleep while the baby is sleeping at night.

Oh, read this :

Tame stray hairs. Nothing makes you look older than ungroomed eyebrows or those chin hairs that would make a billy goat proud. Plucking and depilatories often cause redness, so grooming at night lets your skin calm down by morning.”

Chin hairs…haha! I thought I am the only one with such ugly hairs at places that should be hairless (at least for women..haha!)

And how about try to sleep on your back, rather than on your face or your stomach? That do-able, if I don’t have to sleep while lying on my side all night long nursing the little one…sigh!
